Part Time Aterlierista and Assistant Administrator
Job description
Green Preschool at JCDS is seeking a creative and dynamic educator who can step into a two-fold role as our Aterlierista and Assistant Administrator. Please see below for a detailed description of each aspect of this position. Candidates must have a strong understanding of Google Apps (including but not limited to: Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Photos). Experience in the field of Early Childhood Education is required and familiarity with the Reggio Emilia philosophy is strongly preferred. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is also required.
Role of the Assistant Administrator:
The assistant administrator reports to and works alongside the Head of Green Preschool. Projects that the assistant administrator might work on include but are not limited to planning/organizing preschool events, maintaining records, working with LDOE to make sure we are up to date on all licensing requirements, and assisting in the transition of Green Preschool from a Type I to a Type III center. The candidate must be able to balance working on more than one project at a time. This role also requires excellent written and oral communication skills.
Role of the Atelierista:
The atelierista is an individual with a background in education and/or creative arts. She/he/they work directly with classroom teachers and students, devising and facilitating learning experiences that complement classroom learning. The atelierista also participates in the ongoing process of observingand documenting student learning.
In our context at Green Preschool, we do not have an atelier–as a result, the atelierista will share studio space with our JCDS art teacher and move from class to class throughout the school day. She/he/they are also welcome to use the cubby spaces in the hallway as well as our outdoor spaces to set up invitations and provocations.
As a third teacher working in classrooms between the hours of 8:00 and 2;00, there will be times throughout the day when the atelierista is needed to assist classroom teachers with more routine aspects of their daily schedule. These times might include but are not limited to transitions, meals, and naps.
The Relationship Between Co-Teachers & Atelierista:
The atelierista works in collaboration with co-teachers to facilitate intentional learning experiences. These experiences should stem from children’s interests as determined through the practice of observation as well as conversations with classroom teachers.
All teachers must adhere to the rules and regulations set forth in the Employee Policy Manual & Green Preschool Family Handbook. Furthermore, all teachers are expected to familiarize themselves with key elements of the Reggio approach to early childhood education.
Hours and Benefits:
This is a part-time position--30 hours/week (8:00-2:00)
Benefits include paid time off, health insurance, and retirement match (if eligible from previous employment). Working during the summer months is negotiable. This is a salaried position.
