About the role

A Pathology Technician position has become available in the Biobank and Pathology Core Facility at the UCL Cancer Institute. The successful candidate will be appointed at either Grade 5 or Grade 6 depending on technical experience as per Job Description. The individual will be part of a small team of research technicians and line managed by the Pathology Translational Technology Platform (TTP) Manager. The aim of the Pathology TTP is to support and enhance the research capacity of the Cancer Institute including the Cancer Research UK Centre. The major focus of the work will be optimisation and delivery of standard histology/pathology services such as tissue processing and embedding, sectioning, H&E staining, slide scanning and the building of tissue micro-arrays in a timely and efficient manner. The Pathology TTP also provides molecular pathology services, including immunohistochemistry (IHC), and the extraction and QC of nucleic acids. The position is full-time until March 2027 in the first instance and ideally the post holder would start at the earliest opportunity. Interviews will take place in person in January 2023 at the UCL Cancer Institute in London.

About you

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic individual with broad laboratory experience, who is committed to providing a high quality service to our customers. The successful candidate should have experience, or willingness to develop skills, in laboratory histological techniques. This includes tissue processing, microtomy of formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue and frozen material and Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining of animal and human samples. The successful candidate should have great attention to detail and experience in data management by sing Excel spreadsheets and databases.
