About the Role

We have an exciting Permanent Social work opportunity working in Trafford’s SHINE team in the Complex safeguarding service.

You will be working alongside a range of professionals that include lead social workers, partners from Police, Health, Trafford Youth Justice, and a Trusted relationship professional to support and protect young people who are at risk of, or who are experiencing exploitation.

SHINE social workers are instrumental in sharing information and intelligence with the police, and partners to build an ‘intelligence led landscape’ to understand the connected risks and vulnerabilities surrounding individual young people, and the community.

SHINE social workers practice using the Achieving Change Together [ACT] principles, and use a relational, person centered and strengths-based approach to support and protect young people.

SHINE welcomes innovation, and practice that promotes the young person’s ambitions and aspirations and offer non-traditional means. SHINE focuses on harm reduction, safety and stability and interventions that supports young people in their journey to recovery. The aim to protect young people and support them to have their needs met through less harmful activities, and SHINE concentrates on working with partners to prevent exploitative activities, and to disrupt those who exploit.

SHINE social workers will have lower caseloads to allow them to build meaningful relationships with the young people they work with, often seeing some several times each week.

With a smaller case load the SHINE social worker will have the opportunity to see young people often and be able to reflect and work with partners on the wider issues of contextual safeguarding.

The complex safeguarding team will provide an induction, and ACT training.

About you

The complex safeguarding team want a dynamic social worker who can embrace the ACT approach and who is innovative, creative, and enthusiastic about working with young people.

You will be committed to working together with our partners and support a cohesive and collaborative culture of sharing information and intelligence so that we have a timely and effective response for young people. You will attend all necessary meetings.

You will be a reflective practitioner with a passion to striving for the best outcomes for young people and be able to manage your own caseload with the support of your practice manager.

You will manage your own case load with the support of the Practice manager and have good planning, recording and time management skills.

You will understand contextual safeguarding and the wider issues that young people face today. You will be a dynamic social worker who strives to work with young people in a way that is empowering, and child first. You will understand Adolescent development, and transitional safeguarding.

You will be persistent and be able to ‘roll with resistance’ as the young people we work with have often experienced significant trauma, and adverse childhood experiences and may struggle to trust anyone. This will mean that you will find a way to work with young people who might not want to work with you.

You will have a drive to and focus on developing a trusted relationship, you will work hard to achieve this whilst recognizing and understanding the contextual picture for the young person.

Additional Information
An enhanced DBS check with children/adults barred list check will be required
Police vetting is required given co location in Stretford Police station.
You will have flexibility in terms of hybrid working at home and in the office yet with expectation to be based from the office at least three times per week.
You will be required to drive in this role.
