Position Summary:


The Sr. Specialist, Program and Instructional Design is a key member of the Talent team. This role sits within the Talent Architect area of the Talent team, responsible for leading the enterprise-wide global strategy for the design and development of talent and learning programs to reach our global population of 75,000+ employees globally. Individuals in the department have deep expertise through formal education and practical experience across the talent lifecycle. The ideal talent for this role will have experience designing talent and learning programs through a variety of delivery methods (e.g., instructor-led training, eLearning, video).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Talent and Program Design and Development
  • Design and develop talent and learning-related products across a wide range of solutions (i.e., instructor-led training, eLearning, job aids, print manuals, and experiential learning activities, etc.) for enterprise and brand-specific disciplines as assigned.
  • Write program/learning objectives to guide the development of content for storyboarding.
  • Create design and development production schedules, including a recommendation for any necessary multimedia—graphic design, videos, etc.—to strengthen the impact of the talent/learning solution.
  • Independently research internal and external sources to build a baseline of program/learning content to help validate and further inform the expected outcome(s) with the client that may also inform the design and development of the solution.
  • Make design approach recommendations (e.g., build, buy and/or outsource), including the right channels to procure the necessary content to meet or exceed the needs of the project including any estimations of cost
  • Lead discovery client sessions as needed to further scope the expectations, deliverables, and experiences to be created.
  • Establish metrics of talent and learning programs (leveraging stakeholder feedback) for evaluation, to measure project success and identify potential future improvements.
  • Solicit and incorporate feedback from subject matter experts and assess evaluation feedback to make appropriate changes.
  • Ensure all program/learning design solutions demonstrate the integration of adult learning theory and instructional design and development methodologies while meeting project parameters (e.g., time, budget) and business objectives.
  • Perform quality assurance testing and proofreading of all assigned projects and establish a cadence for the updating of existing talent and learning materials.
  • Responsible for end-to-end project management (e.g., triaging, scope definition, timing and identification of milestones and deliverables, feedback and review sessions) for assigned efforts.
  • Ensure stakeholders are appropriately informed and are engaged in the design and development process.
  • Write statements of work (SOWs) and RFPs as appropriate that clearly articulate the business case, specific needs and expectations, and KPIs for the project. Includes identifying the resources, learning objectives, output milestones, budget, and timeline for each project.
  • Stakeholder Partnership and Collaboration
  • Establish cross-functional partnerships to facilitate content sharing and lead analysis to identify the most appropriate and meaningful talent program and learning objectives.
  • Guide business partners with innovative learning and design trends, leveraging the Talent Center of Excellence and industry best practices.
  • Partner with Talent team members to ensure the design and development of talent programs and learning align closely with the expectations and outcomes of the talent strategy (e.g., talent philosophy, career principles, performance, leadership development, talent review and succession).
  • Responsible for sourcing external vendors as appropriate and presenting a recommendation with final proposals and contracts for feedback, alignment and approval to the Talent leadership team.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Education, Business, Communications, Hospitality, or related field.
  • 3 or more years of related work experience developing talent and learning programs, products, and solutions for a matrix organization with cross-functional work teams.
  • Strong customer service orientation and time management effectiveness even when managing multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated success with creating and managing project deliverables of a complex and large-scale, ranging from technical skill through behavioral skill development.
  • Experience developing sound instructional objectives, exams/certifications, and learning measurement strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience crafting storyboards, writing scripts, and working collaboratively with development peers (internal and external vendors) to produce a mix of print and digital training products with exceptional quality and design aesthetic
  • Prior experience working in a multi-brand, global industry is preferred.
  • Practical experience working on and leading projects across a mix of disciplines (e.g., Operations, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Legal).
  • Demonstrated success working in a complex, service-intensive, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects on time and on budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to make quality decisions (demonstrating risks and benefits) even when presented with incomplete information and tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering impactful business results.
  • Development mindset with examples of developing others and self in the learning and design discipline, including external participation in professional associations.
  • Functional knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., InDesign, Photoshop) and eLearning development tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Storyline, and others preferred but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong design and development experience and demonstrated ability in applying adult learning theory and Instructional Design and Development methodologies (i.e., Successive Approximation Model (SAM, ADDIE,) using a variety of innovative approaches for rapid and iterative development.
  • Ability to rapidly formulate Proof of Concepts to create innovative, experiential, and on-brand learning experiences.
  • Strong content writing ability, creativity, attention to detail, and excellent proofing and editing skills with a high degree of technical proficiency.
  • Ability to establish credibility and work with multiple stakeholders across levels.
  • Ability to be detailed oriented, while maintaining alignment with broader organization objectives.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and multi-media design – in particular the process for eLearning, video, and web development.
  • Familiarity with photo and video shoot lifecycle – all phases from pre- though post-production, with particular emphasis on script writing and storyboarding.
  • Comfort with abstract concepts and ideas as initial business needs are scoped, with demonstrated success working through ambiguity and change.
  • Proven ability to translate client needs into forward-thinking products and solutions.
