Beckley Remote supports Beckley’s workforce community by attracting and retaining individuals to Beckley to strengthen and diversify the economy, build community, collaborate, and network.

Since its ribbon cutting on July 20th, 2022, Beckley Remote is a partnership between the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce and City of Beckley. Beckley Remote connects and empowers local remote workers to engage with their community. The Beckley Remote VISTAS will support Beckley’s vision of a civically engaged remote workers’ hub. Outreach through marketing campaigns to remote workers of the region and outside the state for recruitment into the program and coworking space will be a task of the VISTA. The VISTA will also engage remote workers through community gatherings and service events such as litter clean-ups and networking events of the Chamber. The timing of this project is vital. The State of West Virginia recently launched its remote workers program, which aims to bring the best and brightest across the country to the Mountain State. With this context, the partners of this project hope to utilize this initiative to bolster the initiative. In addition to this this state-level effort, at the municipal level, the City of Beckley is currently undergoing its strategic planning process and hopes to improve access to remote work spaces in the hopes of attracting residents and businesses to the area which could benefit from this VISTA position. By having an AmeriCorps VISTA supporting this project, the City of Beckley’s Remote Worker program can benefit from outreach and engagement efforts, grant writing and fund development, and contribute to Raleigh County’s overall workforce by adding necessary supports to the piloting of this workspace.

Member Duties : Beckley Remote Workers’ Hub aims to alleviate the economic and civic needs of Raleigh County. The goal of the project will be to address the capacity gap and support Beckley’s efforts to increase resources and opportunities available to the public.

• Identify economic development partnerships to redefine the area as a destination for remote employees to work, play, and serve the community, leveraging the natural assets of the area in lieu of extractive industries.
• The position will support the city’s strategic planning efforts in identifying the supports needed for this redefinition and distribute information and resources to corporeal and digital audiences.
• The VISTA will collaborate with the Beckley-Raleigh Chamber of Commerce in identifying the needs of these audiences and users, providing their recommendations based on conversations with confirmed/potential Beckley Remote members.
• The VISTA will be a liaison between Beckley Remote and the Chamber of Commerce.

Entry level but Bachelors degree preferred. Some College and High School Diploma is acceptable and does not exclude applicants from consideration.
