Position Overview

Are you passionate about serving survivors of interpersonal trauma, sexual assault, and domestic violence? Do you want to be a part of building a clinical program that recognizes the inherent resilience of survivors and provides therapy services that are strongly rooted in an anti-oppressive framework? YWCA USA is the largest and oldest provider of domestic violence support services in the world. In this role, you will support survivors with comprehensive, strengths-based clinical assessments, individual psychotherapy, assertive outreach, flexible services, clinical case management, support groups, and coordination of care with advocates or other professional supports which the survivor identifies. You will contribute significantly to YWCA’s mission by providing trauma-focused mental health services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Status: Part-time / 24 hours a week / exempt

Wage Range: $60,000 - $64,000 annual salary (prorated for full time equivalent) + generous benefits

Key Responsibilities/Deliverables & Outcomes

Strength-Based, Trauma Informed Therapeutic Services

• Provide responsive, proactive, and flexible survivor-led therapeutic services, engaging participant’s feedback to inform every aspect of service delivery.
• Conduct assessments and develop collaborative treatment plans with the survivor to determine treatment goals, using a strengths-based approach.
• Incorporate safety planning in therapy, including risk assessment and support regarding risk of revictimization, harm to self, and harm to others.
• Address the participant’s experience of trauma which may also include other priorities such as improving coping, anxiety, depression, substance use, and barriers to accessing mental health or addiction services.
• Carry an active caseload of 15-20 clients with a 50% productivity expectation and conduct weekly psychosocial intake assessments.
• Co-facilitate therapy groups when offered.
• Participate in client outreach efforts to new referrals, group participants, etc., at YWCA office locations and/or off-site community-based locations following safety planning best practices.

Collaborative, Survivor-Directed Advocacy and Support

• Accept referrals for therapy from YWCA Domestic Violence Advocates.
• Provide co-advocacy services at the directive of the survivor, offering support, information, referrals, service navigation, and individualized safety planning.
• Coordinate clinical case management with participant’s advocates and relevant parties, for example regarding fair housing, reasonable accommodations, referrals to psychiatry, accessing disability or public benefits, etc.
• Co-facilitate therapy groups when offered and client outreach (to new referrals, group participants, etc.).
• Promote healthy relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries.

Participatory Teamwork and Responsible Representation

• Engage consistently in anti-racism practices and approaches with internal and external work based on a deep understanding of historical and present-day structural racism.
• Represent YWCA and act as a team member with other partner agencies.
• Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with providers of mental health in Greater Portland area, the survivor services team, and YWCA as a whole.
• Attend and meaningfully participate in all scheduled meetings with department, agency, and external partner teams; this could include for example participation in the Tri-County Mental Health Committee or DV Clinical Consultation monthly groups.
• Meet all contractually required domestic violence trainings plus 12 annual hours of YWCA Social Justice Training annually; commit to ongoing participation in continuing education including DV and trauma-focused care.
• Maintain all necessary records and data entry requirements.
• Support and possibly provide clinical supervision and field supervision to MSW or Counseling Interns to improve mental health services delivery to survivors.
• Work closely with Clinical Supervisor to consult on appropriate client care, therapist self-care, and professional development.
• Uphold YWCA of Greater Portland’s mission, vision, and values by acting with integrity, accountability, and responsibility toward program participants, community partners, fellow employees, volunteers, donors, and everyone the organization engages with.

• Manages a complicated and a frequently deadline-driven work environment with consistent and effective self-care strategies and techniques.
• Advocates for social justice, including furthering the rights, protections, access to safety, and empowerment of historically oppressed and/or under-represented communities.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Bilingual/Bicultural strongly preferred.
• Required: Master’s degree in counseling from an accredited university in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology.
• Licensure is not required but is preferred. If not yet licensed, the clinician must be registered with the appropriate board by time of hire, and clinical supervision by the Clinical Supervisor (LCSW) will be provided. If working towards licensure: maintain hours, associated paperwork, and other requirements to work towards licensure. • Required: if not already certified, mandatory completion of the Oregon State 40-hour Domestic Violence Advocate Training required prior to starting direct independent services (provided upon hire).
• Experience providing clinical services to adults and/or youth and either experience or a keen interest in working with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
• Familiarity with clinical assessment, DSM V diagnosis, collaborative treatment planning, risk assessment and safety planning and therapeutic interventions to treat trauma.
• Commitment and desire to work collaboratively, and to be part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team with advocates, social workers, and peers.
• Demonstrated ability to self-manage workload priorities and calendar while being responsive to survivor needs and priorities. High self-motivation is key.
• Ability to manage caseload independently, schedule appointments, be responsive and consistent when communicating with survivors.
• Ability to build rapport and strong engagement skills with survivors from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, maintain and respect confidentiality, and consistently treat others with respect and dignity.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong attention to detail and solid data entry and clinical documentation skills including keeping up-to-date and accurate records, complete documentation of all services (intakes, releases of information, demographics tracking and statistics within Electronic Health Records) in a timely manner consistent with agency expectations.
• Experience with or ability to quickly learn Microsoft Office, Excel, Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Android cell phone, and experience with electronic health records (EHR) and charting.

Job Conditions

• This position is hybrid, requiring frequent travel throughout Multnomah County for some in-person meetings with participants, colleagues, and other partners at varied community locations (examples include at the participant’s YWCA provided CoRH Housing, or at the Gateway Center for Domestic Violence Services).
• Therapist will provide clients with office-based, telehealth, and/or community-based psychotherapy to meet their unique needs.
• Must be able to provide own transportation to visit multiple Portland Metro sites, mileage or bus pass is reimbursed.
• Laptop, phone, and other work-from-home equipment as needed will be supplied.
