The Work Unit: The Office of STI/HIV/VH is committed to high-quality services, innovative public health practice and community partnerships. We work to ensure culturally responsive and medically accurate STI/HIV/VH related prevention, care, and treatment services for all people in Colorado. Functions include public health surveillance of STI/HIV/VH; follow-up of people newly diagnosed with a STI/HIV/VH to ensure adequate treatment and referrals to care; access to care, partner’s services, and treatment as appropriate; developing comprehensive prevention programs; and conducting program evaluation to enhance the use of STI/HIV/VH data to direct prevention and care activities.
The purpose of the Surveillance and Case Ascertainment Program within the Office of STI/HIV/VH, is to perform STI/HIV/VH surveillance and case ascertainment activities which support and enhance disease investigation, and ensure a mutual understanding of program activities and their intended outcomes. The Program consists of the Syphilis Case Ascertainment Unit, the Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Case Ascertainment Unit, and the HIV Disease Reporting Unit. HIV and STI laboratory information is reviewed for accuracy and cross checked for duplication across jurisdictions using the Intrastate/Interstate Communication Control Record (ICCR), and this unit assigns cases to other jurisdictions for requested follow up. This team also conducts brief Gonorrhea interviews as a part of a Statewide strategy to reduce antibiotic resistant cases.
About the Position
Investigate select reports of STIs, which entails counseling and educating providers to CDC treatment guidelines and raising provider awareness during periods of disease outbreaks. Consults with current health care providers and clients to obtain patient health/medical information, patient demographics and treatment. Investigates, evaluates, and analyzes information to determine and ensure adequate treatment and accurate patient diagnosis. Secures regulatory compliance from physicians, other health care providers, hospitals, laboratories and other health care facilities throughout Colorado by educating and applying appropriate statutes and regulations to ensure accurate, complete and timely reporting of reportable diseases and conditions, and provides technical guidance concerning the appropriate intention and application of state statutes and rules and regulations concerning STI reporting.
What You'll Be Doing:
Reviews previous testing history, test types, results and symptoms to confirm new syphilis or congenital infection.- Reviews physician’s diagnosis with laboratory information and compares physician prescribed antibiotic treatment with CDC recommended antibiotic treatment.
- Enters and initiates follow-up through the Patient Reporting Investigating Surveillance Manager (PRISM) database to Client-Based Prevention staff for patient follow-up of recalcitrant behavior.
- Investigates, collects, evaluates, and analyzes patient health/medical information received from laboratory and health care providers as well as intra-and inter-state STI and HIV initiated field records.
- Reviews previous testing history, test types, results and symptoms to confirm new infection.
- Consults with health care providers, clients to determine the accuracy and completeness of test types, test results, symptoms, treatment and diagnosis.
- Reviews physician’s diagnosis with laboratory information and compare physician prescribed antibiotic treatment with CDC recommended antibiotic treatment.
- Counsels and educates the health care provider on the recommended treatment regimens and raise awareness during periods of disease outbreak.
- Enters and initiates follow-up through the Patient Reporting Investigating Surveillance Manager (PRISM) database to Client-Based Prevention staff for patient follow-up of recalcitrant behavior. • Secures regulatory compliance from healthcare providers, hospitals and laboratories throughout Colorado
To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate that you meet one of the following options outlining the requirements needed for consideration.
OPTION 1 Experience
Five (5) years of professional experience related to STI/HIV surveillance and case ascertainment, disease investigation and intervention, Public Health or healthcare administration and/or case management.
OR
OPTION 2
One (1) year of professional experience related to STI/HIV surveillance and case ascertainment, disease investigation and intervention, Public Health or healthcare administration and/or case management. AND Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Care Administration, Social Work, or closely related field.
OR
OPTION 3 Advanced Education
An advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Health Education, Public Administration or closely related field will substituted for the bachelor’s degree and the required work experience.

- Experience providing risk reduction services
- Experience providing case management for people living with or at risk of acquiring HIV

- Ability to analyze and evaluate treatment plans.
