Our growth has created an opportunity to expand our existing team of Mechanical Test Engineers based in our Penns Park/Newtown, Pennsylvania location (Suburban Philadelphia area).
ABOUT YOU AND THE JUNIOR TEST ENGINEER TECHNOLOGIST CAREER OPPORTUNITY
You are a problem-solver and naturally curious Junior Test Engineer. You are intrigued by forensic and scientific research and testing. You have a knack for working with tools and technology and know your way around a shop/lab with experience in a precision-based test lab environment, or a strong desire to achieve this experience. You thrive in a collaborative and team-based engineering environment. You enjoy bringing your problem-solving and technical expertise to perform all aspects and phases of the testing process including planning, set-up, testing, through post test data processing.
You are interested in contributing to a variety of forensic tests and you are seeking to support and contribute to the overall forensic case management team.
HOW YOU SUCCESSFULLY IMPACT CLIENTS, THE TEAM, AND THE COMPANY
- Provide technical advice / feasibility instructions as it relates to an impending test;
- Examples of tests including but not limited to: sled test, alternative design, (use of) test dummy, quasi-static testing, head drop, helmet/bicycle,
- Prep vehicles for mini and full-scale sled tests using in-house small-scale sled fixture,
- Test preparation including set up, ordering materials, metal fabrication/welding, etc.;
- Set up the test with necessary equipment such as a speed gate, accelerometer, test fixtures, instrumentation, crash test dummies, camera, etc.;
- Run the test with team members assigned to the case;
- Capture highspeed videography;
- Complete Post-test data processing;
- Archive test data and maintain test database;
- Manage workshop by keeping materials stocked and tools up-to-date, scheduling appointments and coordinating equipment servicing.
- Maintain organization of the workshop and lab after each test is completed;
- Assist Warehouse Manager with scheduling, preparation and movement of evidence.
- When needed, assist with preparation/draft test and test protocols that support scientific methodology according to ASTM or SAE standards;
- When needed, coordinate conference calls and material requests.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus but not required;
- Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Engineering Technology;
- Ability to fabricate and weld for assigned tests; or the ability and willingness to learn;
- Metalworking familiarity;
- Welding experience (TIG and/or MIG) and experience using power tools such as angle grinder, cutoff wheels, and saws;
- Prior lab, shop, or testing experience is strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience with transducers.
