Purpose


This position will clearly define the members of the real-time trading team who will lead their shift in overall trading strategy, procurement of balancing resources, execution of hourly trading model (FEA), and accept responsibility for the decisions made on their shift.



Core Competencies:



A candidate for this position will have a minimum of 5 years of Real-Time trading experience with Iberdrola/Avangrid renewables. They will have developed excellent communication skills with adjacent groups (Meteorology, Scheduling, NCC and Cash Trading) as well as within their own team. They will have a history of handling the pressures of real-time trading well and acting creatively when resolving the myriad of issues that challenge hourly deployments.



Characteristics of a Shift Supervisor:

This role is designed to propel good traders into excellent leaders. This is a team building role that will require great communication within your team as well as with the adjacent groups that support real-time trading. Motivating your team and inspiring others to achieve success in the face of challenges is a primary focus for creating this role. Holding yourself accountable for the actions of your entire team may be a difficult task at times of adversity, but it is a primary purpose for differentiating shift supervisors from the rest of the team.

An effective shift supervisor will maintain a level of field awareness that identifies problems and attaches potential solutions in a timely manner. This role is suited by individuals who thrive off of challenges and possess an inspirational manner in their profession that lifts the effectiveness of their peers.

Responsibilities


Each shift will be led by a shift supervisor. The schedule will define those that are in the supervisor role and any shift swaps will require a supervisor to cover for another supervisor.

Run the FEA economic dispatch model on an hourly basis. Ensure that the suggested deployment speaks to the actual deployment of resources. Create event log entries when hours in which material deviations from the economic model occur and offer up ideas for improvements to our models.

Maintain awareness to the status of all schedules, curtailment risk, congestion risk, and updates to tags that are not yet created, pending or in denied status

Update our internal CDE replacement tool and validate the volume of schedules against each asset.

Maintain dialogue with the NCC dispatcher responsible for BA operations and understand the key metrics that operator is viewing and using for decisions.

Maintain dialogue with the hourly meteorologist in an effort to create a level of information sharing that mobilizes the trading team when action is necessary to get ahead of changes in our generation portfolio.

Delegate activities amongst your teammates that efficiently and effectively procures necessary 3rd party balancing resources, intra-hour schedules, shaping VER imports and other balancing tools. Understand the strengths of your team and work to improve the overall functionality of your team according to those strengths.

Skills and Requirements


5+ years of WECC experience in Real-time trading
Experience with trans assigning, re-directing and procuring incremental WECC transmission through OASIS
Solid understanding of the market dynamics involved with WEIM
Experience submitting monotonically increasing bid curves
Ability to independently function in fast paced deadline dependent environment. Must be performance
driven, self-motivated and proactive with demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work rotating shifts of 12 hours which includes night shifts, weekends and holidays.

Familiarity with virtual transactions and shadow pricing.
Ability to model intra-day and next day pricing and load to devise strategies.



Preferred Qualifications:



Experience with MISO, ERCOT, IMO, and HQ.
Experience trading at different points within California
Strong knowledge of the California ISO.
Experience managing physical assets within the WECC
