Position Highlights
The Vice Chair of Research will oversee all Department of OB/GYN research initiatives in both the clinical and basic science domains. This individual will also represent the Department of OB/GYN at University of Arizona and Banner research meetings. They will have financial oversight of departmental research programs and administrative oversight of research program administrative staff. Working under the direction of the OB/GYN Department Head, Dr. Chaur-Dong Hsu, the Vice Chair of Research will collaborate with senior leadership within and external to OB/GYN to create a culture focused on innovative, high quality, and highly productive translational research. The candidate must have an outstanding research record with active NIH funding and leadership skills to develop a strong multidisciplinary and collaborative women's health research program. The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of OB/GYN, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must hold an appointment at the rank (to be determined based on candidate credentials) of Associate or Full Professor. This position will be at 0.20 FTE and it is expected that the candidate will couple their Vice Chair FTE with one or more of the tripartite mission areas towards a 1.0 FTE.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain collaborations across the UA, Banner health, and other stakeholders, locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, to facilitate the department's research mission.
  • Participate in OB/GYN philanthropic development activities related to research.
  • Provide research leadership to OB/GYN clinical, research, and outreach faculty for team-based science, quality improvement, and other scholarly activity.
  • Develop and submit funding proposals to appropriate funding agencies to support research training and, infrastructure, and research projects.
  • Implement research and research training projects.
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • Mentor junior faculty, residents, and fellows in the conduct of research activity.
  • Actively engage in the College of Medicine Strategic Plan regarding research programs/goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD, DO, PhD
  • Must be eligible for Associate Professor or Professor. Track to be determined.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Significant experience obtaining and administering extramural funding from a range of sponsors.

  • Current NIH funding.

  • High productivity with regard to grants and peer-reviewed publications.

  • History of successful mentorship of junior faculty.

  • Commitment to promoting a diverse environment including knowledge of the principles of affirmative action and equal opportunities.

  • Established expertise in working with health systems and diverse communities.

  • Experience with philanthropic development for research.
