Job description

We describe ourselves as a ‘community within a community’ here at Wessex Water, and the Quality Assurance (QA) team is no exception.

As a Junior Test Analyst, you will work and progress within an established test function at Wessex Water, with support and training provided towards achieving ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) test foundation certification.

If you are looking for an exciting opportunity, where you can develop your QA and testing skillset, then we want to hear from you!

What can I expect?

Within our IT department, we are proud of both the quality and efficiency of our work to ensure the right solution is delivered for our customers across the Wessex Water Group. In this role, we are seeking a Junior Test Analyst to join our well-established team of Test/Technical Analysts.

In this unique opportunity, you will learn to ensure that software applications delivered by IT colleagues work as designed, before being passed onto internal customers for validation and use in production.

In this role, you will be involved in:

  • reviewing requirements to ensure all required detail is captured to support QA activities
  • planning and designing tests (including any data requirements) that will prove software solutions are working correctly
  • creating test cases as per design in the appropriate ALM (application lifecycle management) tool and ensuring coverage of requirements is mapped
  • working with test leads to schedule and prioritise tests within test execution windows
  • retesting resolved defects, including subsequent test script retesting and regression testing of any impacted areas
  • project delivery meetings, weekly progress, daily stand-ups and defect review meetings, peer reviews with testers/the test lead, and desk checks with developers and others as required
  • supporting business user acceptance testing activities, particularly UAT defect management
  • project closures, test artefacts updates and creating regression test packs.

As well as working with the team in the UK, you will also eventually be working closely with our test analysts and test leads in Kuala Lumpur, where you'll start to collaborate on multiple projects that help support our business. For example, your work will help contribute to our work management, customer contact and compliance solutions to help them meet their performance commitments.

What are we looking for?

First and foremost, we are looking for an individual who is really keen to get into a junior testing role and begin building their career within QA and testing. Ideally, you’ll have achieved a level 3 diploma or equivalent in an IT field and will be now looking to put experience next to your qualifications. Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics would be beneficial.

You will also need maths and English GCSEs at grade C+ or 4+. You’ll be very adaptable with your approach to work and while also being able to confidently organise your workload, subject to priority. Your excellent eye for detail and analytical mind will help you really understand new business requirements and spot where software solutions aren’t working as expected.

Benefits for you

  • Pension – up to 20% combined contribution.
  • 25 days’ holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • Opportunity to buy and sell up to five days’ holiday.
  • Health benefits package.
  • Life assurance (up to four times your salary).
  • Electric vehicle salary exchange.
  • Flexible working.
  • Cashback and discounts from over 1,200 retailers.
  • Paid volunteering day.
  • Enhanced family leave.
  • Interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from mental health first aiders.
  • £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone to work for us.

What will you get from us?
