DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The CHA laboratory provides everything from from routine blood and urine tests to special tissue evaluation.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- accurately and efficiently provide gross description of all surgical specimens
- demonstrates competency and proficiency in the use of Dragon Voice recognition
- independently troubleshoots issues with Dragon Voice and can create new templates for dictation with Dragon
- accurately and efficiently dissects tissue and puts tissue into a properly labeled cassette for processing
- accurately and efficiently prints cassettes as needed and completes worksheets for each specimen
- ensures that specimen comments ,which includes IHC, special stains and levels are transcribed onto the specimen worksheets
- prepares touch preps and stains the slides as needed
- performs frozen sections with staining and delivery of frozen sections slides within the acceptable time limits
- provides high quality photographs of gross specimens and microscopic slides.
- provides high quality digital pictures with diagrams as needed for complicated cases and delivers specimens to radiology for new images
- Delivers tissue, hardware or other foreign bodies to doctor's offices or directly to patients as needed
- willingly assists in the printing of proofs of dictation and other patient's information as needed
- loads the specimen on the processor as needed
- assists the Pathologists in the preparation for accreditation inspections
- correctly performs all required daily and monthly instrument procedures according to department specific schedules and protocols
- ensures that the grossing room is kept clean and organized
- ensures that there is appropriate monitoring of all temperature dependent equipment
- ensures there is proper management and labeling of the chemicals and the chemical hazardous
Qualifications/Requirements: Minimum education: BS required; a Master's degree in Health Science is preferred. Registration by the American Association of Pathologists Assistants is preferred. Must have completed a course of study to be eligible to take the AARP registry examination.
