JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Manhattan Schizophrenia Research Program (MSRP), directed by Dr. Jean-Pierre Lindenmayer, is seeking a full time Project Research Specialist to coordinate NIMH funded clinical trial in Manhattan Psychiatric Center (MPC) and MPC's 125th Street Clinic. MSRP's mission is to provide treatment to individuals with schizophrenia and related disorders, conducting basic and translational research into the manifestations, causes and treatment of schizophrenia, and educating professionals about mental health disorders. Those who are enthusiastic about working on an interdisciplinary research team and in a fast-paced clinical and research environment are encouraged to apply. Because of the training involved, a one-year commitment is requested.
JOB DUTIES:
- Coordinates study enrollment, protocol treatment, and follow-up care for patients participating in clinical trials
- Screens for study eligibility
- Schedules clinical assessments and interviews
- Administers neurocognitive tasks, psychiatric scales, and research questionnaires
- Entry of data into paper or electronic case report forms, databases, and spreadsheets and resolve research data queries if necessary
- Communicates with various departments, physicians, labs, outside hospitals, and all members of the clinical team to ensure accuracy, timely retrieval of data, and confirm the appropriateness of screened research patients
- Corresponds and collaborates with clinical teams, vendors and agencies involved in the research project
- Handle and ship laboratory specimen per protocol and record medical results
- Under the supervision of investigator, assists with the identification, review and reporting of adverse events/serious adverse events/reportable events, protocol deviations, and other unanticipated problems as appropriate
- Interacts with the regulatory team to maintain regulatory documentation and administrative files for the protocol
- Maintains and updates sponsor-related, hospital and department databases and handling data management requirements for each patient enrolled
- Assists in data analysis, and in the preparation of grant proposals and manuscripts
- Develops and presents research focused materials in healthcare, professional, scientific, and community events.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS or BA in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, or another related field, or
- BS or BA in an unrelated field and 3 years of experience working in the field of neuroscience or psychology, or another related field.
- Competent in the use of technology and digital devices
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- MA/MS in psychology or related field
- Clinical trial psychiatric research experience
- The ideal candidate will have an interest in neuroscience and mental health, be curious about the mechanisms of behavior, have research experience, a working knowledge of data management software (e.g., SPSS), and an interest in working with a clinical population.
Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
